Months, Weekend, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
Updated 17 April 2026
Once you know the seven days of the week, the next most useful time vocabulary covers the months of the year, the weekend, time-reference words like yesterday and tomorrow, and expressions for next and last week. This page covers all of them with dual-accent audio.
Months of the Year (Los Meses del Ano)
Like the days, Spanish months are not capitalised mid-sentence. They are all masculine. The months are closely related to English month names via Latin roots, making them relatively easy to learn.
Writing dates with months
Format: [day number] de [month] de [year]. Example: 17 de abril de 2026. The month is lowercase. Days of the week can precede: viernes, 17 de abril de 2026.
The Weekend (El Fin de Semana)
Note: “El fin de semana” is the dominant form across all Spanish-speaking regions. In some Latin American countries, you may also hear “el fin de semana” shortened to just “el finde” in informal speech, particularly in Argentina.
